This exhibition is an ongoing project walking segments of The Cambrian Way - linking Cardiff Castle to Conwy Castle. The 298 mile route tackles the highest peaks across the heartland of Wales.
The 18 paintings from this particular series navigate through the Wye Valley, Brecon Beacons, Doethie and Elan Valley and Mt. Snowdon; featuring Oil and Mixed Media works on canvas. The route is described as 'the mountain connoisseurs' walk', and it pays homage to the founding rambler of the The Cambrian Way, A.J. Drake.
Kettle was also inspired by his father, Alan Kettle - an ardent hiker committed to ongoing rambling adventures – and Alan's completion of the Cambrian Way in 2020. Peter Kettle's painting approach encoporates the rugged wilderness of the landscape, using heavily layered Oil and Mixed Media, splashed, scrapped and grouted into the canvases. “I wanted to invoke the textures and architecture of the dry stone walls that line and form the landscape, the swards of fertile lands and ancient stone that tally the path. There is no better calling, after a difficult year of periodic islolations, than the colour palette of deep viridians, hot ruddy ocres and vibrant apple greens that fill the scenes of The Cambrian Way. These are the colours that have lifted the soul, and the landscapes that have restored it.
